The Kós Ultramarathon can be completed as individual competitor or in 3-member relays. Relay exchange points: Gârbău road (CP 3) and Leghia (Jegenye) road (CP 5). At these checkpoints the relay runners shall hand over the mobile phone on which the app is running to the next leg of their team, who carries on the race. Arriving on time to the exchange points is the responsibility of the competitors. However, they can use the transportation options provided by the organizers.
The ultramarathon participants compete in the semi-autonomous mode. In designated checkpoints they receive water, energy drinks, food, fruits. In these points they can accept external help. At the other checkpoints, where only water is available, as well as on the whole length of the race they have to rely on the food, drink and equipment they carry themselves.

Timing: with smartphone app

This year the app will assist the runners on the 53/59 km track of the Károly Kós Ultramarathon. We switched from the previous, SI card-based solution to the mobile app, which makes racing easier and smoother.
Many of you may already be familiar with the app, if you have not used it before, you can find a crash course here.
In short: install the app from Google Play or the App Store and launch it at the start. You will see your current position on the phone in relation to the track. The phone will automatically check in at the checkpoints, all you have to do is run.

Route and equipment

The route of the individual Kós Ultramarathon is identical to that of the Kós Hiking 53 tour, while the relay route is identical to that of the Kós Hiking 59 tour. The checkpoints are the same, too.
•    The detailed description of the ultramarathon route can be found in the Tour Guide/tour map.
•    In exceptional cases (e.g. extreme weather conditions) the organizers reserve the right to change the marathon route or to cancel the whole race or certain stages of it.
